On July 20-29, 2007 the Third Summer Camp on Human Rights for Law Students from various universities of the Republic of Belarus tool place. As in 2006, it was conducted in Bad Liebenzell (Germany).

The Summer Camp on Human Rights for Law Students 2007 was organized in cooperation of several NGOs: Foundation for Legal Technologies Development (Kiev, Ukraine), European Exchange and Akademie fur politische Bildung und internationale Jugendbegegnung (Germany) and Helsinki Foundation of Human Rights (Warsaw, Poland).

The educational program of the Summer Camp was worked out by for law students by experts from different countries and included the following topics:

  • Basic notions of Human Rights;
  • Human Rights in the legislation of the Republic of Belarus;
  • OSCE liabilities and mechanisms in the sphere of Human Rights;
  • European system of Human Rights protection;
  • UN system and mechanisms of human rights protection;
  • Public interests protection actions.

As a continuation of a theoretical part of studies on the European system of Human Rights protection, participants of the Summer Camp have visited the European Court on Human Rights and the Council of Europe (Strasbourg). During the visits, participants have met a legal adviser of the European Court of Human Rights Olga Bobrova and a representative of a Commissioner for Human Rights bureau Roman Shlopak, who have elaborated on the work of organizations mentioned above and answered the questions of law students.

Also, using the Open Space method, participants of the Camp were offered a possibility to express their thoughts and exchange ideas about the possible steps in the direction of public interests protection.

A great number of application forms received for The Third  Summer Camp on Human Rights for Law Students, the interest of participants towards the program of the event, their activeness during the sessions, questions touched upon in discussions allow us to state that young students, future lawyers, understand the vitality of Human Rights and have interest in their implantation in various countries, including the Republic of Belarus.
