The Foundation for Legal Technologies organized and held the "Public interest law" International meeting for students and lecturers of the law faculties of the high educational establishments of the Republic of Belarus on November, 26 2005. The action was organized in the partnership with the American Bar Association of the Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (ABA CEELI) in Belarus.
121 people took part in the meeting, there were 107 students and 14 lecturers among them. There were Summer camp for human rights (Ukraine, Vorzel) participants, members of legal clinics, representatives of the youth initiative legal magazine "Praunik".

Action was consisted of 2 parts: the International meeting itself and Communication platforms.
In the first part 4 speeches were offered to participants. Following experts had been invited:

Edvin Rekosh is the professor of law and Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Initiative of Law School of the Colombian University. Mr. Rekosh is the recognized expert in the field of the public interests law and has the long-term experience of practical work in the sphere of public interests law protection ;

Dmitry Shabelnikov is the coordinator of the Russian program Public Interests Law Initiative (Moscow). Mr. Shabelnikov has a significant operational experience in the field of public interests law protection in the Russian Federation;

Ilya Shevchenko is a member of the Fund for development of the clinical legal education Board (Saint Petersburg) and the Senior manager of Legal Institute of Krasnoyarsk State University legal clinic .
Jodi Bet Rafkin addressed to participants of the meeting with an opening speech , the representative of the American Bar Association of the Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (ABA CEELI) in Belarus. She presented ABA CEELI activity in the country and told about the role of legal community in public interests law protection.
Edvin Rekosh focused the participants’ attention on a theme "The public interests law: the concept, history, modern approaches". In the lecture he broadly covered a history of public interests law appearance, formation and development. A lot of attention was given to approaches of the definitions of the term "public interest" and what public interest law is. According to participants of the international meeting the theme was actual and new for them. About half of participants were not familiar with the concept and approaches of the public interests law. Participants noted, that lecture caused a very big interest, helped to realize an urgency of the given theme and induced to reflect on objectives and functions of the lawyer.
Dmitry Shabelnikov brought to the international meeting participants’ attention the presentation on a theme "The public interests law in Russia". In his message he offered the understanding of the public interests law, as not the branch of law, but the area of practical actions. Also the Russian Federation practical examples of public actions in public interests law protection were introduced to participants, such as monitoring researches, strategic suits, work with mass media on public opinion formation, influence on rule-making.
Ilya Shevchenko presented his lecture on a theme "The clinical education in Russia. Legal clinics of new type". Mr. Shevchenko told about the development of the clinical legal education in Russia, successes and problems in the given area. Ways of clinics specialization approaches to the organization of clinics work, selection of students and cases were introduced to participants. Ilya Shevchenko covered techniques of the clinical education, giving not only practical skills to students, but also forming lawyers of new type, those who operates, and will operate in the field of public interests law protection.
Within the framework of the action the presentation of the "Praunik" magazine took place. The "Praunik" magazine is a youth legal initiative with the purpose of giving legal information in Belarusian language, association of law students and practicing lawyers who speaks Belarusian language. For the first time the "Praunik" magazine is issued on the paper carrier, and also is the continuation of the Internet - project "Praunik" Legal magazine.
The major goal of the second part of the action called Communication platforms was creation of conditions for dialogue between participants on themes interesting for them, that participants had defined during the first part of the meeting. There were three groups:

The legal clinics movement;

The web-site of law students creation;

Legal clinics activity (selection of students, selection of cases, preparation of curators).
The thematic selection of materials on the action's subject on CD-disks, prepared by The Foundation for Legal Technologies and Representative office of ABA CEELI, was given to participants of the International meeting as distributing materials. The disk contains the following sections:
