On December 10, 2007, at the Human Rights Day, Foundation for Legal Technologies Development has opened the call for annual Law Essay Competition.

The Competition is directed towards encouragement of independent research on the questions of promotion and protection of human rights in the Republic of Belarus.

The following parties are invited for participation in the Competition:

  • Students studying law, international relations and political science in highest educational institutions;
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students, teachers of law, international relations, political science.

Independently prepared creative works on the role, function and assignment of law, legal institutions, legal community in protection of human rights and promotion of public interests should be submitted to the Competition.

The essay should correspond to the topic and represent the author’s personal viewpoint towards the topic suggested or chosen, it should include analysis of the problem, of legislation and law enforcement practice in the Republic of Belarus.

Comparative legal approach and experience of post-soviet and CIS countries is welcomed within the assessment of the essay.

Winners and nominees of the Competition will be awarded the following preferences: participation in educational programs supported by Foundation for Legal Technologies Development, Legal Club, recommendation for participation in international and national human rights education programs, international study visits, trainings, etc.

Best essays will compose a printed edition of works that will be published in 2008 as the outcome of law essay competitions of the last years.
