On July, 20 – August, 1 the VI Summer Camp on Human Rights for law students took place. Traditionally, Bad Liebenzell (Germany) has become the venue for the Camp.
Law students studying in different Belarusian and European universities as well as humanities students participated in the Camp.
The Summer Camp on human rights for law students 2010 was organized by the two non-governmental organizations: the Foundation for Legal Technologies Development and the International Forum Burg Liebenzell – Academy for political education of youth and international relations (Bad Liebenzell, Germany).
The Summer Camp educational program included lections and interactive sessions on the following issues:

Introduction to the Human Rights concept: origin, philosophy, fundamental notions;

Human Rights and Politics: imaginary similarities and basic differences;

Actions in public interest;

Catalogue of rights and freedoms: comparative analysis. Derogations, Human Rights Protection Mechanisms;

Interaction of National and European Systems of Human Rights Law (on the example of Germany);

European Convention;
-
European Court of Human Rights: overview of structure and activity; Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in protection of human rights. Cooperation with Belarus;

Activity of Law Enforcement Bodies and Human Rights;
-
Human Rights, vulnerable groups of society and discrimination;
-
Elections: International Standards and Analysis of Belarusian Practice;
-
Basic UN Mechanisms of Human Rights Protection;
-
The UN Human Rights Committee and Individual Complaints;
-
The Eastern Partnership Programme: Roadmap for Belarus;
-
International standards of the Freedom of Association. Legal Regulation of Non-profit Organizations Establishment and Operation in the Republic of Belarus.
Experts from Russia, Germany and Belarus took part in the programme. The German Foreign Office representative, expert on political rights and rights of people with disabilities, delivered a lecture "Why the Foreign Office of Germany provides assistance to actions in human rights protection in Belarus".
In order to upgrade theoretical knowledge on the European human rights protection system study visits to the European Court on human rights and the Council of Europe (Strasbourg, France) were organized. The Summer Camp participants met with a lawyer of the European Court for human rights Secretariat and a representative of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Secretariat, who spoke about activity of the abovementioned organizations and answered the students’ questions.
The workshop "Lawyers in protection of human rights and public interests: ideas for mutual implementation" constituted the culmination of the Summer Camp and became a platform for exchange of opinions about the role of lawyers in protection of human rights and public interests.
